Prószyński, Kazimierz
(1875-1945)
   Polish scientist and inventor who created his own camera, the Pleograf, in 1896. In 1902 he employed the perfected Pleograf to produce the first Polish narrative film, a simple single-shot feature called The Return of a Merry Fellow (Powrót birbanta) featuring Kazimierz Junosza-Stępowski. Prószyński is also credited (with Bolesław Matuszewski) as the father of Polish documentary cinema. Between 1901 and 1903, he produced several short films in his Pleograf Company (Towarzystwo Udziałowe Pleograf). He died in Mauthausen concentration camp on 13 March 1945.
